"The day you STOP trading the money, is the day you'll START making money"

We mainly trade options on the last day of expiration for the SPX index. We usually open a trade for options on the SPX during regular trading hours. Some members trade SPY options also as it trades the same as the SPX except that they can assign into shares, not cash. The SPY is an American-style option and can be assigned prior to expiration, whereby the SPX settles into cash with no early assignment.

Most trades we are in and out within 5 min-4 hours. A small percentage of trades are held right into expiration where we capture the maximum profit, this would apply to SPX options only, as they are cash settled. We discourage holding options on ES futures or the SPY into expiration to protect against assignment of a futures contract as well as with SPY settling into shares.

You do not need a large account to trade options. A minimal account size might be $500-$1500. Trading options can easily scale to six figure account with minimal investment over time. Your account size, and the size of positions you want to take, will depend upon your personal capacity and tolerance for risk.

The only requirement of your trading platform is that it allows you to trade options spreads (level 3). We recommend TD Ameritrade’s Think or Swim platform, or the Tasty Works platform, but any platform that allows level 3 options trading will work. All documentation, demonstrations, and teaching videos uses screen shots from the Think or Swim platform. We also use TradingView with at least the Pro+ membership for charting and trading ES Futures.

The minimum capital to trade 1 SPX option contract is $500 for a 5 wide spread. As a general rule, any trading or investment strategy should not use more than 25% of your total trading capital. The 0DTE strategy has very tight risk controls, however it is a speculative and discretionary strategy, and so proper sizing should be paramount. We do not recommend risking more than 2-5% of your strategy capital on any one trade. The strategies we employ generally have a max risk of $75-$300 per contract. Those with less capital can trade the SPX mini contracts (XSP) or SPY. So, in general, I would recommend starting with a minimum of $2500 and trade One contract only, and risk management of $75-$150 for each trade.

(2500*20%=500, and 2500*0.05=125). [20% allocated, and risking 5%] Of course, not everyone is the same.

XSP is just 1/10 of the SPX, everything else is the same. You can trade with as little as $100.

Please consider commissions and fees.

SPX: Minimum spread 5 points with multiplier 100, so the minimum capital required to enter the trade is $500, and your MAX LOSS is also $500-credit received.

ES: Minimum spread 5 points with multiplier 50. so the minimum capital required to enter the trade is $250, and your MAX LOSS is also $250-credit received.

Remember: SPX and ES difference is not fixed, usually, it ranges from 0-20 points. The closer to the future expiration is the closer the difference.

XSP is just 1/10 of the SPX, everything else is the same. You can trade with as little as $100. Your max loss is $100-credit received.

The Pattern Day Trader (PDT) Rule requires any margin account identified as a “Pattern Day Trader” to maintain a minimum of $25,000 in account equity, to day trade. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) defines a “Pattern Day Trader” as a brokerage customer that executes more than three round-trip trades during a rolling five business day period. Different brokerages may also implement additional requirements for customers. Remember the PDT rule applies to the stock and equity options, you can trade ES futures with NO PDT Rule.
